Blogs

My experiences with blogs have been pretty limited to this point. I do not regularly follow any blog. One of my friends just had a baby and posts pictures and milestones on a blog. I do check this from time to time. I see that she is really dedicated to the blog (what with all the time on her hands as a stay at home mom with a 7 month old?!?!) I'm amazed that each time I visit is has been updated within 2 or 3 days. It makes me question whether or not I could ever have my own. I feel as though I would have to have something I felt strongly about in order to keep it up!

I teach at a school that is only in it's 4th year. One of our biggest challenges is parent involvement and building a community that includes others outside of our school building. We also recently got a new principal who has taken on the task of pulling in the community. One of the ways she has done this is to regularly update a blog that is available on our schools website. (Check it out!) If parents, and others in the community are checking the blog, they can become more informed on things that are happening at our school and hopefully somehow they will get more involved.

I look forward to learning more about blogs this semester and especially seeing ways that I can use them in my own classroom. I'm interested in seeing how 2nd graders may be able to participate in blogging in some way!

  1. I too feel a little overwhelmed by how often many blog authors write new posts (where do people find the time to teach, balance family life, and write these things??) I love the idea of a school blog to keep parents updated though :)

  2. Your principal blogs?? That is a very forward thinking administrator! This sounds like a great way to save some trees and to keep the community informed.

  3. Maybe it's your friends only contact with the outside world? If she's a stay at home mom, she probably doesn't get to go out much or do anything without her child. It could be her thing that she does without her kid since everything else probably has it (yes I know I'm sensitive referring to it as it, but you didn't say if it was a boy or girl!) in it. I know I probably check/update my facebook that often.
