So I pose the question to myself: How can I incorporate podcasting into 2nd grade? So many ideas are going through my head. Famous explorers...Native Americans...meteorologists of the day...and then I think...DAILY NEWS!!
At the end of every day, my students and I do a shared writing about our day. We meet on the carpet for only about 5 minutes and write a paragraph describing our day. It's a great way to daily revisit many of the writing qualities that my students need to develop as a 2nd graders. As I write on my easel, the students write in a notebook. What if, at the end of every day, there are 2 students who are responsible for then recording a reading of our daily news, and then posting it to a class blog? (which is slowly becoming a big goal for NEXT year...everytime I sit down to start on it...something else comes up!!) This would be a great way to keep parents informed on what we do in class each day, and each episode really would be coming to them from The Surf's Up Kids in Room 202!! I'm pretty excited about how this will play out!

This is a great idea! Did you think about having them create a podcast about the classroom news? Maybe this could be done weekly, if daily would be too much. I can hear it now... "This week in room 202..." :o)
ReplyDeleteIf you did this once a week, students would have wonderful practice building summarizing skills!!
Just an idea :o)
I think it would be cool for a kid to do a simple interview with another kid. You could get a daily / weekly recap and they could practice the roles of interviewer and interviewee.
ReplyDeleteI love the interview idea! That's an awesome way to introduce that concept to 2nd graders!
